ARCHAEOLOGICAL FINDS: Identification & Analysis
Our network of experienced external specialists means we can arrange identification, analysis and reporting for most categories of finds. Expertise in Roman artefacts, including small finds and ceramics, but also Prehistoric lithics and Medieval ceramics
FIELDWORK & POST-EXCAVATION
Archaeological fieldwork carried out for research and training – fieldwalking, evaluations and excavations. Currently running an important project at Hinton St Mary with The British Museum and Albion Archaeology that is exploring the immediate setting of the famous mosaic. Previous projects include important excavations at Caerleon and Water Newton
Post-excavation for external projects. Track record of completing complex or challenging legacy projects, such as the Staffordshire Hoard and the forum-basilica excavations at Caerwent
ILLUSTRATION & DESIGN
Large format scanning; artefact illustration (particular expertise in ceramics and lithics); digitisation of site plans and sections; reconstructions (site, buildings, objects and historical figures)
Graphic design; Desktop publishing (books, articles, leaflets and pamphlets); public signage; museum exhibitions and catalogues
ADVICE & CONSULTANCY
Desk-based assessments; heritage statements; resource assessments; management plans; research frameworks; standards and guidance; policy and legislation
We have contributed to national and regional research frameworks, as well as reviews of professional standards and policies. Recently, we were commissioned by Cadw to produce the Statement of Significance for Roman Caerleon
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
We can assist clients throughout all stages of a project, from initial outline proposals to project designs and written schemes of investigation, scheduled monument consent and funding applications
We also provide management for fieldwork and post-excavation projects – from organising and running excavations, to initial post-ex assessments, updated project designs, final analysis and preparation of reports and publications
