Roman coinage & currency: identification and analysis
Vianova’s Dr Peter Guest is an archaeological numismatist specialising in the identification and analysis of excavated assemblages of Roman coins (site-finds).
An experienced field archaeologist, Peter combines many years as an excavator with a background in innovative numismatic research. He has identified over 30,000 Roman coins for commercial units, museums and universities, and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and the Royal Numismatic Society, and a Member of CIfA.
This combination of archaeological and numismatic expertise means Peter provides fully integrated analysis of excavated Roman coin assemblages, where the coins’ stratigraphic deposition is as significant as their numismatic identifications.
In 2021, CIfA commissioned Vianova to produce a guide for the reliable and consistent reporting of Roman coins, which was launched in 2022 as the Toolkit for Finds Reporting: Roman Coinage. Vianova’s work is compliant with CIfA’s Toolkit, delivering high quality Roman coin reports to clients throughout the UK.
If you are looking for the services of an experienced archaeological numismatist who can advise on how best to manage an assemblage of excavated Roman coins, large or small, and who provides publishable catalogues and integrated analysis as standard, please use our Contact page to get in touch.
